NFAS: How did you hear about the Northeast 5 Star Shootout combine and what was your favorite part about the event?
Tecumseh: They were looking for the top players in Connecticut to try out for the U.S. Army All American Bowl and invited me to the combine. My favorite event was the one- on -ones verse the defensive backs I had a chance to demonstrate my skills to read not only zone defenses by man to man coverage.
NFAS: How did you do at the combine?
Tecumseh: At the combine I came in first place out of the twenty one QB’s that were invited from all over New England. I have to thank my QB coach Travis Meyer for my techniques
NFAS: What do you like about High school football? What are your goals for your team and your self?
Tecumseh: I like HS football because it is the competition and the pressures to get better ,are always there. It’s a full time job for me.
NFAS:Do you play other sports? Tell about your accomplishments.
Tecumseh: I play basketball and also play Lacrosse. One of my accomplishments would have to be making the varsity football team as a freshman
NFAS: What are you looking for in a college? Academically? Football?
Tecumseh: I’m looking to play at a division 1 school as a QB. Not sure what I want to study, but I have visited a few school to get a feel of the different types of campus. As far as football, it’s my dream of playing in NFL. It’s going to take hard work and a long journey.

Freshman football players with star potential
When you first step on a NFA campus, you have to deal with the big adjustments that come along with the transition to high school. Being in an unfamiliar place, worrying about grades and one of two thousand students are just a few of the changes all ninth grade students face.
When trying to find a player to compare Outlow , two names come to mind: former University of Maryland defensive back JJ Justice and current Holy Cross Basketball player RJ Evans both players started at NFA as freshman on the football team. Outlow like Evans and Justice possess skill sets that can be nightmares for opposing teams.

NFA upsets Waterford, wins Large title
Long time coming:
NORWICH — To hear Nikki Beatrice tell it, the Norwich Free Academy cheerleading team could have just skipped the award ceremony.
“We’re shocked right now,” said Beatrice, one of five NFA seniors who won their first divisional title. “I think we all had a lot of poise throughout the whole thing. We had determination and fed off each other. I can’t believe it.”
NFA has placed in the competition before but coach Diane Leone, who has led the Wildcats for 24 years, can’t remember when her team last won a Large title. The Lancers let everyone at Alumni Hall know of their recent dominance of the division, incorporating references to their “tradition of excellence” in their routine and mentioning the word “repeat” twice.
Leone said that NFA’s focus coming into the competition wasn’t to unseat Waterford from its perch atop the Large but to simply “have fun and have a clean routine.”
“We’re strong in cheer — we always have been — and we showed it (Saturday),” she said. “Our formations were good, the dance was good, and the energy of the routine is what really helped it.”
The Wildcats also dominated the Large in individual honors, putting four on the all-division team, including Kathryn Maruzo, who was named the Large’s top cheerleader. Beatrice, Jessica Charette and Hannah Knight also made the team for NFA.

AMHERST WINS PROGRAM'S FIRST NATIONAL TITLE!
BLOOMINGTON, IL – For the first time in Amherst College history, the Lord Jeffs are champions of Division III women’s basketball.
The third time was indeed a charm for the Jeffs (32-1), who earned a 64-55 win over Washington University in St. Louis Saturday evening at the Illinois Wesleyan University Shirk Center. Amherst lost to the Bears in the semifinals of the 2009 and 2010 national tournaments but used exceptional defense and another outstanding team effort to prevent them from claiming a sixth national title.
Mr. Evans and Sarah Panzau
Prior to my accident, I only lived for today. I lived like I would never die. I had turned my back on my family and I had very little purpose in life. I had quit school, and gave up a full ride volleyball scholarship. A two-time all American Volleyball player to bartender! I had no direction in life.
After near 40 surgeries, I am here to tell my story. It was a miracle that I survived the accident. I was out with my friends (the people I thought really cared about me.) These so called friends let me get into my car with a blood alcohol level of 0.308. That is almost 4 times the legal limit in the state of Illinois.
I challenge every student and student athlete...take the time to hear Sarah's story. It will change your life.......

NFA Basketball 2011-2012 Schedule
Norwich, Conn. — In four weeks, Kensy Desir (NFA) will try out for a basketball team he was cut from a year ago.
His shortcoming turned out to be a blessing: The 16-year-old has learned more about the game off Norwich Free Academy’s court than on.
He didn’t make the team as a sophomore because, he said, he didn’t try. His shooting was subpar. He was selfish
I thought I would just make it automatically,” Desir said. “I didn’t show my best. I was so disappointed in myself.”
So, with NFA not an option, he started working out with the Team Work Basketball Club — a squad that, on its best day, gets to practice on a court outside at West Thames Park that isn’t littered with broken glass and scribbled with graffiti the night before.Read More

The True Student Athlete
Alumni RJ Evans Class 0f 2008
Storrs-CT. We had a chance to chat with RJ Evans, member of the Uconn men's basketball team. RJ is not any ordinary player, he is a graduate student with one season of eligiblity. The Holy Cross grad will persue his master's degree at Uconn.
He and his parents made the choice to attend Uconn after meeting with Hall of Fame coach Jim Calhoun.
So we asked RJ five questions about his opportunities at his new school.
How have things been since being at Uconn?
Things at Uconn have been going well. Most of my time is dedicated to basketball and school. We are working very hard as a team and I am excited about what this season will bring.
What concerns do you have being the only senior player on UConn?
There aren't many concerns about me being the only senior, I feel like I am privileged to be in this position. I feel like my teammates look up to me for leadership and maturity. They have even given me the nickname of "Uncle Ev".
How has the transition been from graduating from the College of Holy Cross with your degree in economics and now going to grad school and still playing college basketball ?
The transition was pretty smooth, I am now enrolled in the Neag School of Education at Uconn in the department of Educational Psychology. The academic support staff at Uconn made my transition easier, and I completed three classes over the summer so I am well acquainted to the academic world at Uconn. I also feel like my academic career at Holy Cross has prepared me for anything in the academic world. The academics at Holy Cross is top notch and I am grateful I have that degree on my resume.
What would you tell a high school athlete about really being a student -athlete in college ?
Being a student-athlete in college is the most important thing for an athlete in college. If you do not perform in the classroom, you will not be able to play and it can hinder your team also. Take my team for example, we can not play in the postseason because of academic performance. The NCAA has really made it a point to make academics first and all aspiring college athletes should know this and be prepared to be a student-athlete in college.
How important is nutrition and rest for a college athlete ?
Nutrition and rest is very important for a college athlete. You get out of your body what you put into it. Eating fast food, candy and other bad food on a regular basis is going to hinder an athletes performance. I learned this early in my college career and have tried to eat well ever since. Nutrition can give you that extra edge over another athlete. Rest is also important because you can't perform on an empty tank. Rest re-fuels your body and without rest, fatigue will affect your performance as an athlete.
Anonymous Alumnus donates van to basketball team
The van was delivered to the practice courts of Teamwork Basketball Club this summer.. The man who paid for the van does not want his identity revealed , other than that he is a proud alumnus of Norwich Free Academy .
The article written by the Norwich Bulletin-"Hoop Squad in Norwich Teaches Teamwork", is the reason the van was donated. In the article the van the team used had over 300,00 miles on it.
Mr. Evans still in shock with the surprise gift . His program is for the kids that get cut from there high school teams . They train with Mr. Evans over the summer and then-tryout for there high school team the following season .
Getting cut from a sport team can be a very tough thing for a teen to handle Evans said “It’s critically important to help young people embrace their leadership abilities so that they can go on to become valuable members of our communities."
One way if doing that is to work hard at something you failed at and try to get better .
The third year program has placed eight players on college basketball teams . One college player was cut each year he tried out and never played high school basketball but will play college this season .
There are over fifty players in his program from five area high schools . Sixteen are NFA students . The season runs from April to October .
