NFA High School quarterback  Tecumseh continues his busy offseason with his appearance at the invitation-only Rivals.com Northeast Five Star Showdown  in Norwood. Mass

NFAS: How did you hear about the Northeast 5 Star Shootout combine and what was your favorite part about the event?
Tecumseh: They were looking for the top players in Connecticut to try out for the U.S. Army All American Bowl and invited me to the combine. My favorite event was the one- on -ones verse the defensive backs I had a chance to demonstrate my  skills to read not only zone defenses by man to man coverage.
NFAS: How did you do at the combine?
Tecumseh: At the combine I came in first place out of the twenty one QB’s that were invited from all over New England. I have to thank my QB coach Travis Meyer for my techniques
NFAS: What do you like about High school football? What are your goals for your team and your self?
Tecumseh: I like HS football because it  is the competition and the pressures to get better ,are always there. It’s a full time job for me.
NFAS:Do you play other sports? Tell about your accomplishments.
Tecumseh: I play basketball and also play Lacrosse. One of my accomplishments would have to be making the varsity football team as a freshman
NFAS: What are you looking for in a college? Academically?  Football?
Tecumseh: I’m looking to play at a division 1 school as a QB. Not sure what I want to study, but I have visited a few school to get a feel of the different types of campus. As far as football, it’s my dream of playing in NFL. It’s going to take hard work and a long journey.

Freshman football players with star potential

by NFAsports.com
When you first step on a NFA campus, you have to deal with the big adjustments that come along with the transition to high school. Being in an unfamiliar place, worrying about grades and one of two thousand students are just a few of the changes all ninth grade students face.
When trying to find a player to compare Outlow , two names come to mind: former University of Maryland  defensive back JJ Justice  and current Holy Cross Basketball player RJ Evans  both players started at NFA as freshman on the football team. Outlow like Evans and Justice  possess skill sets that can be nightmares for opposing teams.

NFA upsets Waterford, wins Large title

Long time coming:

NORWICH — To hear Nikki Beatrice tell it, the Norwich Free Academy cheerleading team could have just skipped the award ceremony.

“We’re shocked right now,” said Beatrice, one of five NFA seniors who won their first divisional title. “I think we all had a lot of poise throughout the whole thing. We had determination and fed off each other. I can’t believe it.”

NFA has placed in the competition before but coach Diane Leone, who has led the Wildcats for 24 years, can’t remember when her team last won a Large title. The Lancers let everyone at Alumni Hall know of their recent dominance of the division, incorporating references to their “tradition of excellence” in their routine and mentioning the word “repeat” twice.

Leone said that NFA’s focus coming into the competition wasn’t to unseat Waterford from its perch atop the Large but to simply “have fun and have a clean routine.”

Mission accomplished.

“We’re strong in cheer — we always have been — and we showed it (Saturday),” she said. “Our formations were good, the dance was good, and the energy of the routine is what really helped it.”

The Wildcats also dominated the Large in individual honors, putting four on the all-division team, including Kathryn Maruzo, who was named the Large’s top cheerleader. Beatrice, Jessica Charette and Hannah Knight also made the team for NFA.

AMHERST WINS PROGRAM'S FIRST NATIONAL TITLE!

BLOOMINGTON, IL – For the first time in Amherst College history, the Lord Jeffs are champions of Division III women’s basketball.

The third time was indeed a charm for the Jeffs (32-1), who earned a 64-55 win over Washington University in St. Louis Saturday evening at the Illinois Wesleyan University Shirk Center. Amherst lost to the Bears in the semifinals of the 2009 and 2010 national tournaments but used exceptional defense and another outstanding team effort to prevent them from claiming a sixth national title.

         Mr. Evans and Sarah Panzau
Prior to my accident, I only lived for today.  I lived like I would never die.  I had turned my back on my family and I had very little purpose in life.  I had quit school, and gave up a full ride volleyball scholarship.  A two-time all American Volleyball player to bartender!  I had no direction in life.
After near 40 surgeries, I am here to tell my story.   It was a miracle that I survived the accident.  I was out with my friends (the people I thought really cared about me.)  These so called friends let me get into my car with a blood alcohol level of 0.308. That is almost 4 times the legal limit in the state of Illinois.

I challenge every student and student athlete...take the time  to hear Sarah's  story. It will change your life.......

Norwich ,CT-  Seven college athletics from D1, D2, and D3 all  past ECC  players had a chance to speak with a diverse group of high school student  athletes. Eight ECC schools had students  present at  the seminar and two middle schools.

The first, and most important task which the student-athlete faces is to make a decision about the extent to which she/ he would like to devote himself or herself to athletics in college.  The panelist talked about year-round commitments on all division men and women teams.

Talking with student-athletes already in college as they decide for  them selves what role they will like athletics to play in there college search and, subsequently, in there life as a college student.

Norwich, Conn. — In four weeks, Kensy Desir (NFA) will try out for a basketball team he was cut from a year ago.

His shortcoming turned out to be a blessing: The 16-year-old has learned more about the game off Norwich Free Academy’s court than on.

I thought I would just make it automatically,” Desir said. “I didn’t show my best. I was so disappointed in myself.”

So, with NFA not an option, he started working out with the Team Work Basketball Club — a squad that, on its best day, gets to practice on a court outside at West Thames Park that isn’t littered with broken glass and scribbled with graffiti the night before.Read More
